Arcana MCP Documentation

Documentation for the Arcana MCP connector

Overview / Server Description

The Arcana MCP (Model Context Protocol) is now available. The connector lets you interact with Arcana directly through Claude or ChatGPT — querying portfolios, pulling risk data, surfacing research notes, and more, all through natural language.

Feature List

  • Portfolio and factor analytics (risk decomposition, exposure summaries, hedge ideas)

  • Full research management system access (notes, memos, price targets, conviction scores)

  • Asset and metric search

  • Benchmarking and performance data

Setup instructions

  1. Click the "Add" button in the "Connectors" section. If the "Add" button isn't visible (see screenshot below), you will likely need to ask your IT admin to allow custom connectors

  2. Click "Add custom connector"

  3. Name it "Arcana", input https://app.arcana.io/mcp for the URL field

  4. Approve the OAuth login to Arcana

  5. For the best experience, we recommend setting the read-only tool permissions to "Always allow" for every tool once you click into the Arcana MCP in https://claude.ai/customize/connectors (see screenshot below).

Authentication Details

The Arcana MCP is authenticated using OAuth to connect to your Arcana account. When you add the connector, you're redirected to the Arcana login page to sign in (SSO supported if your firm has it configured) and authorize the chat platform to call Arcana on your behalf. The chat platform does not see your Arcana password.

Permissions inherit from your Arcana account: you only see portfolios, positions, custom data, and research notes you already have access to in the Arcana web app.

Users must have the MCP enabled for their account. Contact [email protected] if you are interested in access.

Example Prompts

  • "What's my idio"

  • "Summarize my performance LTM"

  • "Summarize my portfolio's risk"

  • "What are my factor exposures"

  • Which of my positions have the largest idio+industry returns"

  • "Make a dashboard of my LTM performance"

For ongoing preferences like a default portfolio or risk model, you can take advantage of Claude's built in user memory, just say, "For the Arcana MCP, always assume my portfolio to be [book name] and my risk model to be Arcana Global, unless otherwise specified. Remember this across sessions".
