Arcana MCP for Microsoft Copilot Studio

Connect Arcana to a Microsoft Copilot Studio agent using the Arcana MCP server.

Overview

The Arcana Model Context Protocol (MCP) server lets a Microsoft Copilot Studio agent work with your Arcana data directly, so you can query portfolios, pull risk data, and surface research notes in plain language without leaving Copilot.

Setup instructions

Setup has two parts: an admin allows Arcana once for your environment, then anyone in that environment can add Arcana to an agent.

Allow Arcana in Power Platform (admins)

A Power Platform admin must allow Arcana in a data policy before anyone can add it to an agent.

  1. Open the Power Platform admin center.

  2. Go to "Security", then "Data and privacy", then "Data policies", and click "New policy".

  3. Name the policy, for example "Allow Arcana Custom Connector".

  4. On the "Custom connectors" step, click "Add connector pattern" and enter https://app.arcana.io.

  5. Classify the pattern as "Business".

  6. Move the Arcana rule above the catch-all * rule. Rules are evaluated in order, so * must come last.

  7. Scope the policy to the environment where the agent will be built.

  8. Save the policy.

If someone tried to add Arcana before this policy existed, Arcana may still show as blocked after you save the policy. To fix this, an admin can inspect or reset the URL patterns in Power Platform PowerShell using Get-PowerAppPolicyUrlPatterns, New-PowerAppPolicyUrlPatterns, and Remove-PowerAppPolicyUrlPatterns.

Add Arcana to a Copilot Studio agent

Once the data policy is saved, follow these steps to connect Arcana to your agent.

  1. In Copilot Studio, go to "Agents" and click "New agent".

  2. In "Instructions", enter: Use [portfolio name] as my default portfolio when using Arcana Data. Replace [portfolio name] with your portfolio's name.

  3. Click "+" next to "Tools", then click "+ Add" and select "Model Context Protocol (MCP)".

  4. Enter the server details below, then click "Add":

    • Server name: Arcana Data

    • Server description: Provides data from Arcana

    • Server URL: https://app.arcana.io/mcp

    • Authentication: OAuth 2.0

    • Configuration type: Dynamic (with discovery)

  5. Open the "Connection" dropdown and click "Create new connection".

  6. Click "Create". The display name is optional.

  7. In the Arcana window, sign in if prompted, then click "Continue".

  8. Confirm "Arcana Data" shows a green check, then click "Add".

  9. Click "Save". "Arcana Data" now appears under "Tools".

  10. Click "Preview" to start a new chat with the agent.

If you see an error when adding the server (step 4), a teammate may already have added a server named "Arcana Data". Use a different name, such as "Arcana MCP Data", and use that same name in the instruction from step 2.

Authentication details

Arcana MCP uses OAuth. When you create the connection, you're redirected to the Arcana login page to sign in and authorize Copilot Studio to access Arcana on your behalf. The agent can access only the data your Arcana account can access, and MCP must be enabled for your account.
